Dr van der Poel, optometrist, is a graduate of the University of Montreal where he received a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree. He received a certificate of optometry residency program after being the first optometrist in Quebec to complete a residency in ocular diseases in a hospital setting in the ophtalmology department of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts.
Dr van der Poel currently centers his practice in co-management of ocular diseases with ophtalmologists and has a special interest in glaucoma. He also works at the Montreal University Vision Clinic, helping train future optometrists.
Dr van der Poel promotes a patient-centered approach and an evidence-based practice of optometry.
